The Tukuwool Sweater The Tukuwool Sweater

Sweater weather has arrived in Vancouver (yes, it snowed last night!) and we will be wearing one of our favourite (and warm) cardigans to celebrate--Marit in Tukuwool Fingering.  While the original was knit in an all-over design of 3 muted shades, we copied Tiina (WoolPower on Ravelry) and used a rainbow of heathered colours of Tukuwool on a neutral background.  (Hey, we realize that's a big commitment of yarn, but the leftovers made a beautiful garter stitch striped blanket). This sweater was such a joy to knit and we think the inside is as beautiful as the outside (see pictures of the brilliant knitted-in facings used to finish the steeked edges). We've also included a photo taken during mid-cutting of the front opening. Tukuwool is the perfect yarn for steeked designs--a feltable, 100% wool that will stick to itself and not unravel during the cutting process. So, as long as you're using the right wool, there's no need to be afraid to cut your knitting. We like to stabilize steeks with a few rows of sewing machine stitching (a walking foot works well for this job) but crochet and needle felting are also great methods for stabilization.  You can check out our project notes for Marit here on our Ravelry Project Page. Happy Knitting!
