Grade Ones Learn to Knit
June 21, 2015
For the last 4 months we've been spending a few hours a week with the kids in The Boy's Grade One French Immersion class. Taking our inspiration from Bonnie Grosse's wonderful A First Book of Knitting for Children, we taught 24 six year olds to knit. Each child completed a garter stitch rectangle, seamed it into a pouch, and filled, shaped and embellished the stuffy to create their very own special kitten. We all had so much fun with the project and the concentration, perseverance and enthusiasm of the kids was amazing. Last week, with all the kitties finished, we lined them up in the classroom for a proper photo shoot.
