Gezell
We're knitting Gezell, Cirilia Rose's wonderful sweater coat. The pattern is from her book Magpies, Homebodies and Nomads. While we love the widespread digital availability of knitting patterns, there is something to be said for holding an actual book in your hands--especially a beautifully designed book like Magpies. With photography by Jared Flood and a narrative that takes readers behind the scenes of Rose's design process, this book is much more than just a collection of patterns.
Now that we've knit a bit of the lower border, we're loving the look of the bobbles in the tweedy oatmeal colour. You can follow our progress here on Ravelry.
We chose a mix of two yarns for this project--Studio Donegal Soft Donegal (worsted) in Oatmeal and Drops Alpaca (fingering to sport) in Light Camel. Our swatch was a perfect 14 sts/4" on 6 mm needles and the drape and texture of the fabric after blocking seemed just right for the coat. Our original swatch, in blue tweed, was nice but in the end we opted for a lighter palette.
