Simple Toe-Up Socks: Afterthought Heel
We love Toe-up socks! Easy to try on as you knit and you can be sure to use every last bit of your yarn. And when you add an afterthought heel, self-patterning yarns truly shine with no break in the pattern. You can also choose to add a splash of colour in the heel and toe. Students should be comfortable with basic knit stitches and knitting in the round.
Along with how to insert an afterthought heel, other techniques students will learn include:
Judy’s magic cast-on (also known as figure-eight)
Basic increases and decreases
Kitchener stitch (grafting)
