A new Sock Yarn Sweater for The Boy. He loves fish so we used the chart from spillyjane’s Swedish Fish for a little embellishment.
Sweater knit in Rowan Fine Tweed, 5 balls Shade 367 Muker. Fishies knit in leftover bits of Harrisville Shetland Shade 33 Midnight Blue. We used 3.5mm needles for the body of the sweater and 3mm for the garter trim. The Boy loves it!
We needed a project to brighten up these rainy days and Whit’s Knits Chevron Blanket seemed like the perfect choice . . .
What could be better than a double strand of buttery soft Blue Sky Organic Cotton knit in a beautiful striped palette of brights and neutrals. We can’t get enough of the first two colours–reminiscent of kiwis and lemon pudding. Yum!
. . . and we love the wavy chevron pattern. This is going to be a wonderful blanket! Check back for finished photos.
Shown here in Isolde’s Ishbel shawlette (used less than l cone).
Habu Tsumugi Silk is a fine tweedy lace yarn with a soft cottony feel, beautiful drape and texture–perfect used on its own (as we did with Ishbel) or held 2 or 3 strands together or with other yarns. One cone (450 yarns) makes a small shawl, 2 cones for a larger piece, 3 to 4 cones for a garment. Have a look at the possibilities here on Ravelry. We’ll be posting our colour palette soon so check back for updates.
No time to knit mittens for the wee ones? Consider a pair of these cozy merino/possum mitts from New Zealand. Light weight, durable, warm and luxuriously soft–just add a twisted cord so they don’t get lost! Also available in fingerless style for adults.
Just a reminder–we’ll be closing at 2 pm Saturday, December 24 and reopening in the new year on Monday, January 2. Our annual Belated Boxing Day Sale is scheduled for January 7, 8 and 9. Best wishes for the holiday season. Happy Knitting and Crocheting to all!
There’s still time to knit for the holidays. But if you just can’t add another project to the UFO list, consider one of our beautiful accessories. No knitting required. And the three items presented today are 100% Canadian made.
Our exquisite cherry wood Shaker boxes are hand-crafted by New Brunswick artist Brent Rouke.
Shown above in closeup, stacking oval boxes are made in the 150 year old Shaker tradition with copper tacks and small wooden dowels–the perfect combination of beauty and function.
We still have a few warm and wooly MacAusland Blankets in stock. More are expected, but not before Christmas. Made from “sheep to shawl” on Prince Edward Island.
Another example of form meeting function, Astrosatchel has created a wonderful knitting bag. It’s hardwearing, waterproof and stylish with lots of interior pockets and a wide flat bottom for balance and easy accessibility to your projects and tools. Locally designed and manufactured in Vancouver.
Our version of the Striped Study Shawl, Veera’s simple garter stitch triangle with a whimsical bit of asymmetrical shaping.
We used Rowan Fine Tweed, a lovely Yorkshire 4-ply that comes in 24 beautiful colours. Christa chose 7 neutral shades and knit the shawl at a loose gauge for softness and drape. View her project notes here.
Begin the new year 2012 with this fun Beyond Beginners Sweater Class and learn seamless sweater construction and cables. (You’ll be amazed how easy cables are to knit!) Choose Kate Davies’ Owlet (6 mo to 12 yrs) or Adult Owls version (30 to 50″). The child and adult sweaters use a chunky-weight yarn and can be knit up quite quickly. The baby Owlet uses a worsted-weight yarn and is equally fast (because of its small size). More information here. Call or stop by the shop to register.
