Description:
Explore the gentle rhythm and beauty of lace knitting–join us in the New Year for our six week Sunday morning lace knitting program. The most complex lace patterns come together in fabric that provides warmth and comfort–just what is needed around our shoulders in the cold winter months. This lace program is perfect for new lace knitters or those who wish to expand their techniques. Participants will explore a unique lace stitch pattern each week, working the patterns into a lace sampler or separate piece for their resource binder. In the second half of the course, students will have the opportunity to transfer their skills by knitting the beautiful Swallowtail, a classic triangle shawl by lace designer Evelyn Clark. Basic knitting skills are required for this workshop and some homework will be needed to complete the lace samplers and triangle shawl.
Materials:
Please come into the shop ahead of time to choose yarn for Swallowtail. Your shawl can be knit in any of the following yarn weights.
Lace Weight: 437 yds (400 m), US 4 (3.5mm) needles
Fingering Weight: 516 yds (471 m), US 6 (4mm) needles
Shetland/Sport/DK Weight: 612 yds (559 m), US 8 (5mm) needles
Sampler yarn will be provided at the first class. To knit your sample pieces please bring a selection of needle sizes from 3 mm to 4.5 mm, your knitting accessories and a 3-ring binder with plastic sheet protectors.
