Izzy "Comfort Doll"

We're using a worsted weight 100% wool yarn (Cascade 220) for our dolls.  While the pattern suggests acrylic yarn to avoid shrinkage (if the dolls get wet), we think wool will stand up well and felting will only increase the dolls' durability. We'll keep you posted on the progress of our young knitters as the dolls get sewn up, stuffed and accessorized!

The Izzy Comfort Doll

We've been teaching The Girl's Grade 4 Class to knit Izzy Comfort Dolls, a special part of the Physician Travel Pack. The Travel Pack is a mobile medical kit filled with essential medicines and supplies used by Canadian healthcare professionals to provide primary care in the developing world. The dolls, which cushion the Travel Pack boxes in lieu of styrofoam, are given by health care teams to their youngest patients. Sometimes the little handmade comfort doll is a child's first toy.
