Blackberry Ridge is back!

You may remember the beautiful Blackberry Ridge Silk/Wood Lace we stocked a few years ago at the shop . . .

We knit our first EZ Pi shawl as a welcoming blanket for The Boy in the natural cream colour and it’s still going strong after almost 24 months of daily use!

Well, Blackberry Ridge is back and we’re knitting another Pi, this time in the vintage green “Willow” colour.  We’ve used a concentric circle pattern of simple eyelet rounds for most of the shawl, ending with about 3 1/2 inches of  gull lace (popularized in the February Baby Sweater) and finishing with the knitted on edging from EZ’s Pi in Best of Knitter’s Shawls and Scarves.  Of course, as is obvious from the above photo, we’re far from “finished”.   With over 600 stitches on the needles, this edging (which requires two rows for every one stitch from the circle) will take a while to complete.  But it’s a beautiful satisfying knit, and the perfect marriage of yarn and pattern. Check back for progress pictures.

Does it seem like we’re excited about Blackberry Ridge?  It’s true, we can’t stop planning projects! Jamie cast on today for Carol Feller’s Adrift in the Medium Lilac colourway.  Her washed swatch shows stocking stitch at 24 and 25 sts/4″.  The before-after-washing stitch gauge was unchanged and the fabric is delightfully soft and springy.  So stop by and have a look at this wonderful yarn from the family-owned Wisconsin Blackberry Ridge Woolen Mill.   Made from merino and corriedale wool from sheep flocks local to the Spinnery, the fibre is woolen spun, producing a soft, warm, light and lofty yarn. Our Silk/Wool Lace (25% Silk/75% Wool) is slightly thicker than lace and thinner than fingering but appears to work equally well in patterns for both weights.

Your Pi shawl is perfect in that yarn, so wooly, and lacey, yet not delicate. Thanks for the warm welcome to a first time visitor! I enjoyed meeting you and your shoppers and hope to come back when I visit the city!
